Any animal, no matter what kind, is cute when it's young.

There's even a saying that they survive by winning sympathy through that cuteness.

No matter how ferocious an animal might be, most tend to radiate an irresistibly cute charm when they're young.

"Kyu?"

Just like the baby Owlbear in front of me right now.

It just tilted its head slightly, but it sent a massive impact to my heart.

If I were to describe the baby Owlbear, it would be exactly like this.

Imagine a fluffy ball of fur, wide-eyed, staring straight at you.

While adult Owlbears have terrifying faces, this one looked downright gentle.

But this is the wild. Even a baby Owlbear would struggle to survive here alone.

So what should I do now?

"Chuchuchu, chuchu. Come here."

"Kyuu."

What else? I just want to pet it.

As I waved my hand, the Owlbear tilted its head and slowly approached.

Then it buried its nose in my hand and started sniffing. It's the instinct typical of beasts.

While Owlbear sniffed, I slowly moved my other hand.

Swish— Swish— Swish—

“Kyuung?”

The head-patting that only hands can do, something four-legged animals could never experience.

The baby Owlbear looked at me with wide-open eyes, experiencing a sensation it had never felt before.

Those perfectly round eyes, and the hair that stood out on top of its head like an owl.

How could such an adorable creature exist? And since it was only the size of a medium dog, it wasn’t particularly threatening.

“Grrrr. Grrrr.”

Seemingly enjoying my touch, the Owlbear closed its eyes and made a strange sound.

I diligently patted the little one's head and quietly went into the gallery.

Most praised the baby Owlbear.

Well, it's not strange to feel your heart melt when you see a fluffy creature like this.

But the wild is always cruel. I came across one comment.

There's the gallery, but it can't compare to interacting with a living creatures.

I met the Owlbear's gaze staring at me with curious eyes.

It really doesn't seem like such a bad choice to use it as a bodyguard.

If money gets tight, I can always sell Mandrakes or hunt Golden Frogs.

'But what does it even eat?'

Bears are omnivores that even eat rotten carcasses. But this is an Owlbear.

Alright, then I’ll give it a try.

I went into the auction and looked for honey.

I made sure to carefully read the reviews too.

Apparently it's from a family that's been beekeeping for three generations. Their prestige is something else.

After buying the honey, I also bought a large spoon. A wooden spoon.

I then scooped some honey with the spoon and offered it to the baby Owlbear.

The baby Owlbear was cautious, as if seeing honey for the first time.

The honey dripping from the spoon felt really wasteful.

Still, perhaps due to its developed sense of smell, it soon opened its mouth wide.

"Yam."

"Is it delicious?"

The one who took a bite of honey hesitated for a moment.

"Kyuuuuu!"

"Wha- What?"

"Kyuaaaaa!"

It started devouring the honey frantically while making bizarre sounds.

I was so surprised that I put the bottle on the floor and took a few steps back.

Damn, it's eating with serious gusto.

It's even fascinating how a short beak can extend such a long tongue.

The baby Owlbear was completely absorbed in the sweet taste of honey it was experiencing for the first time.

I didn’t even get a bite. If I had known, I would’ve had a taste too.

Anyway, glad it seems to enjoy it. It'll take some time to finish all that.

'What should I name it?'

This creature I'm raising for my survival and peace of mind.

I've never kept a pet, but I know naming is important.

‘Since it’s a fluffy ball of fur... Fluffy?’

Am I being too casual? But there's no name more fitting than this.

It feels like asking the gallery to name it would... not work out well.

They would come up with the most ridiculous things imaginable.

"Fluffy."

I guess it’s not looking at me because it’s eating honey?

Well. I've named it, so I'll make it recognize the name slowly.
